Link between Hate Crime and Genocide

‘LEZZA’    ‘FREAK’    ‘PAKI’    ‘NIGGER’ ‘FRUITCAKE’   ‘FRUITLOOP’  ‘IT’  ‘TRANNY’ ‘WHAT IS IT?’
‘WHO THE **** DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?’ ‘WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING HERE?’

These names and phrases have been directed to people in Derby and Derbyshire who have been interviewed for this exhibition.

Hate crime often starts with name calling, verbal intimidation. If unchallenged this behaviour can and often does develop…

Smashing windows, hate graffiti, intimidation to –
Physical assault and violence to –
Murder. Mass murder to –
And finally genocide.

A key example of name calling and seperating people – and where that led – is Nazi Germany and the Rwanda genocide.

“Genocide is often preceded and accompanied by widespread hate speech…”
